ABOUT SQUASH ONTARIO
Committees
The standing committees represent a special interest of Squash
Ontario such as junior development, high performance, officiating,
etc. The committees provide expertise and guidance in the development
of standards, policies and practices related to their particular
special interest. The committees also monitor and, where applicable,
administer the delivery of policies and practices specific, again
to their special interest. They represent the best interests of
those involved in the specialty area and they promote that special
area. As a consequence, Squash Ontario seeks out those individuals
with the necessary expertise to sit as members of these committees.
The chair is elected annually by the members of the committees,
and are essentially the cabinet of Squash Ontario.
Junior Advisory Committee
To provide a structure of programmes and services which will introduce
and expose a maximum number of junior players to the game of squash;
and to assist junior players to achieve their potential.
High Performance Committee
To represent the best interests of high performance athletes in
Ontario. "Best interests" is defined as addressing their
concerns and recommending policies to the Squash Ontario Board of
Directors to address these concerns.
High performance athletes are defined as players who compete at
the provincial level; who represent Ontario on teams; and who compete
at a university level.
Doubles Committee
The game of doubles continues to thrive in Ontario, with increased
participation in almost every provincial championship over the past
several years.
As draws increase in both strength and numbers, it has now become
important to appoint a committee whose sole role will be to oversee
the game. The committee will take on the responsibility for seeding
of tournaments, reviewing and amending hosting standards, reviewing
and awarding of bids for provincial championships, doubles certification
programme and any other aspects of the doubles game.
