SQUASH ONTARIO JUNIOR HIGH PERFORMANCE

COACHING OPPORTUNITIES

FOR THE 2007 -2008 SQUASH SEASON

 (1) TEAM ONTARIO

Squash Ontario has just completed an extremely successful 4 year Canada Games cycle, culminating in two gold medals at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

We now enter the first year of the next four year Canada Games cycle, beginning with the identification of Team Ontario.  Team Ontario is comprised of 12 athletes, six boys and six girls, all of whom are eligible to compete in the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Year one and two are Team Ontario years and the Junior Advisory Committee has selected the 12 athletes for 2007-2008 who have met both the eligibility and selection criteria.

Squash Ontario is seeking two dedicated and committed coaches, one male and one female, who want to be part of the Canada Games program, perhaps working toward taking the Team to the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 certification (we will consider applications from Level 2 coaches who commit to completing their level 3 certification by March 31st 2008) * please note that any coach attending the Canada Winter Games must be fully certified at level 3.
  • Experience in coaching with a team environment
  • Experience in coaching junior high performance athletes

Responsibilities

  • Availability to travel to specific events to coach (2008 Canadian Junior Closed and 2007 U.S. Junior Open)
  • Hold two training sessions with team members (dates have been set by the Junior Advisory Committee)
  • Maintain monthly contact with Team Members to build and foster an esprit de corps
  • Liaise with Team Ontario personal coaches
  • Provide semi-annual written report to the Junior Advisory Committee

Notes

                            $500.00 for travel/accommodation             2008 Canadian Junior Closed

(2) ONTARIO JUNIOR UNDER 13 TRAINING SQUAD

The Under 13 Junior Development Squad is a key component in the overall Canada Games program.  It is a talent identification program created so that Squash Ontario may assist these young athletes by providing a high performance coaching environment in which they can train.

Squash Ontario is seeking two dedicated and committed coaches, one male and one female, who want to be part of the Canada Games program, perhaps working toward taking the Team to the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

The Under 13 Squad is comprised of 6 boys and 6 girls, all of whom have been (and in future will be) selected based on published eligibility and selection criteria.

Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum fully certified level 2 coach  (we will consider applications from Level 1 coaches who commit to completing their level 2certification by March 31st 2008) * please note that any coach attending the Canada Winter Games must be fully certified at level 3.

ONTARIO TRIUMPHS OVER US IN UNDER 23 TEST

Young squash players often find the transition from junior ranks to senior ranks challenging, particularly if the player is looking to make a career in the PSA or WISPA.  In order to help these athletes and provide a “bridge” for these players – Squash Ontario has created an environment in which they can reach their competitive potential.  The creation of an Under 23 program will be the first and most critical step in integrating top junior and university players and preparing them for international senior level competition.

Many countries, including the United States, are developing an under 23 component.  Recently Ontario athletes took on the mighty U.S. in the first of many annual test matches and “brought home the hardware”.

The test match was hosted at The Club at White Oaks on the weekend of August 17 – 19.
