
2013 – 2015 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria
Year One of the Canada Games Selection Cycle 2012– 2014
SQUAD SELECTION: based on participation in 2012-2013
Squash Ontario will select its Canada Games Squad based on the following selection criteria:
Athlete Squad Selection Criteria

Must have participated in 3 of 4 Gold events in the year 2012 – 2013

Must have participated in the 2012 Ontario Junior Closed and the 2013 Ontario Junior Open

Rankings as at 30 April 2013
Athlete Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a member in good standing of Squash Ontario
- Must meet age eligibility (February 20, 2015) for Canada Games
Team Composition
Top 3 boys eligible for the under 19 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per season end rankings.
Top 3 boys eligible for the under 17 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per season end rankings.
Top 3 girls eligible for the under 19 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per season end rankings.
Top 3 girls eligible for the under 17 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per season end rankings.
NOTE: Squash Ontario reserves the right to add an athlete(s) to the Squad in either gender or age group if the number of total eligible squad athletes (12) is not met. The athlete(s) who would be added to the squad will have had to meet the same eligibility and selection criteria as stated above.
Selection Process
Canada Games Squad will be selected by 1 July by the Junior Advisory Committee
Year Two of the Canada Games Selection Cycle 2014 – 2015
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE THE 2015 CANADA GAMES TEAM?
1. Participate in the 2014 Gold # 1, 2014 Gold # 2 and the 2014 Ontario Junior Closed Championships
2. Rankings as at 15 December 2014
The 2015 Canada Games team will be selected no later than 15 December 2014
Team Composition
Top 2 boys eligible for the under 19 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per December 15, 2014 rankings.
Top 2 boys eligible for the under 17 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per December 15, 2014 rankings
Top 2 girls eligible for the under 19 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per December 15, 2014 rankings
Top 2 girls eligible for the under 17 positions for the 2015 Canada Winter Games as per December 15, 2014 rankings
Injury/Illness
If a combination of rankings and head to head results are inconclusive between squad members or other Squash Ontario junior ranked players who have met the criteria, the coaches will have the discretion to hold a trial between the appropriate players.
- In the case of injury or illness, a medical certificate will be required. Squash Ontario must be notified of the injury immediately. The medical certificate must include, but not be limited to, the date of injury, diagnosis, treatment plan, and expected date to return to training/competition. The medical certifcate must be completed by a physician approved by Squash Ontario.
In the event that an athlete has submitted a medical certificate, Squash Ontario reserves the right to request an independent medical assessment. Additionally,
medical confirmation that the player is fit for tournament play prior to confirmation of Canada Games, may be sought.
- If an athlete has been invited to be part of the 2013-2014 Canada Winter Games Squad and declines the position or if an athlete on the 2013-2014 Canada Games Squad fails to meet all selection criteria, he/she will be ineligible to be selected to the team even if he/she has met all other eligibility criteria.
- Squash Ontario will be providing financial assistance to the Canada Games Squad and Team members. Funding must be repaid to Squash Ontario if an athlete has accepted the funding, accepted a team position and then decides to forgo participation at the Canada Winter Games (unless athlete is unable to participate because of documented illness.)
