Lee Hanebury Fund
Squash Ontario is the governing body for squash in the Province of Ontario and as such is recognized by the Ministry of Health Promotion of the Ontario Government.
Sometimes, when one donates to a charitable organization, they wonder if the money is really going to the people who need it most. Following is an excerpt from a letter Squash Ontario received:
"My daughter has participated in many of your tournaments, particularly at White Oaks and Fabulous Fitness. These experiences have not only improved her squash but they have also helped her mature as a young woman.
We would like to show our thanks for all the kindness we have received from the Squash Ontario family by making a small contribution to the Lee Hanebury Fund. We understand that Lee was an extraordinary woman and that the fund is entirely for the benefit of junior squash in Ontario".
The Lee Hanebury Junior Squash Fund was created by Squash Ontario at the request of the Hanebury family. Lee was a young, vibrant young woman who loved the game of squash with a passion. She encouraged her two young sons to participate and she became a constant at all junior events. She believed the game taught young people not just about the sport but about life – that winning wasn’t the most important thing – playing was. We lost Lee all too early in her young life and it was the family’s wish that the Fund be set up in her name with all proceeds doing directly into junior squash.
And that is exactly what Squash Ontario does – it provides supplemental funding for junior programs – racquets and eyeguards for schools – travel and coaching assistance to high performance junior athletes and much, much more. The support the Canada Games team received from the Lee Hanebury Fund was instrumental in Ontario bringing home 2 Gold Medals from the Whitehorse Canada Winter Games and we are utilizing funds again to train our Canada Games squad in preparation for the 2011 Games.
The Lee Hanebury Junior Squash Fund is registered under the Sportalliance Sport Is Development Fund and therefore cash donations are eligible for a tax receipt.
