A HOT SUMMER NIGHT FOR SQUASH
By Iain Robertson
On Wednesday, September 14, 2011 squash enthusiasts from around the GTA gathered to watch The Dunlop T&D Men’s Squash League summer final at Mayfair Lakeshore. It was a great night of squash.
First up, on court 1, were the “B” league finals between Club Meadowvale and the National Squash Academy (NSA). This was the NSA’s first time in a final in the T&D and it showed as the team from Club Meadovale came out and took care of business with a 3-1 victory. Congratulations to the champions form Club Meadowvale Shane Son Kee, Peter DeFrancesco, Ghulam Khan and Omar Khan and an honourable mention to the runners-up from the NSA Jordan Brooks, Eric Vanio, Nick Guest, and Adrian Gorizzan.
In the fight for supremacy in the “C” division it was Burlington Racquets Club up against U of T St. George. Burlington, started strong winning at the fourth position, however, U of T St. George stormed back and won the next three giving the team of Adrian Pond, Curtis Woodford, Jonathan Kent, and Greg Raczkowski a well deserved win. The runners up from Burlington consisted of Nathan Drew, Ray Coates, Dean Lloyd, and Brian Siu.
In the final match of the summer season the “D” division final was fought out by Goodlife McCaul and Pickering. The team from Goodlife McCaul, comprised of Jamie Herman, Rod Gill, Jason Holt, and Brian Couto took control of the match and won the first 3 matches crowning themselves champions. The Pickering team of Scott Gormley, Greg Sweeney, Kevin Klinger, and Trevor Charboneau did find a little saving grace by winning the final match.

The T and D league executive and players would like to thank our sponsor Dunlop. Seanna Keating and Dunlop supplied all the prizes for finals night and continue to support the operation of this great league. A special thank you also goes out to Mayfair Lakeshore for providing their club and facilities as well as great food and refreshments for the finalists. We would also like to thank our volunteers including referees and team captains who help in making the T and D a continued success.
Finally, the league would not operate without the fine work of our volunteer executive that includes Gordon Robertson, Dave Tullis, John Varley, Jim Rowland, and Bill Sears.
See you at winter finals………
