ONTARIO MASTERS TEAMS SELECTION CRITERIA
For the
2010 Canadian Masters Teams Championship
January 15 – 17, 2010
Composition of the Team
The women’s team will comprise three (3) players over the age of 40, at least one of whom must be over the age of 50 and at least one other must be over the age of 45. Playing position on the team will be determined by the team captain.
The men’s team will comprise four (4) players over the age of 40, at least one of whom must be over the age of 55, at least one other must be over the age of 50 and at least one further player must be over the age of 45. Playing position on the team will be determined by the team captain.
Men’s Team Eligibility Criteria – no change
- Be an individual member in good standing of Squash Ontario at the date of selection
- Be either a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the announced date of the Ontario Masters Closed Championship
- Be age eligible for the Masters Closed as of the first day of the tournament in the year of selection and be able to participate in his/her age category as of this date
- Be able to meet the age eligibility for the 2010 Canadian Masters Teams Championship – i.e. 15 January 2010
Men’s Selection Criteria – no change
- Participate in the Ontario Masters Closed in the year of selection
- Selection based on order of finish in the Ontario Masters Closed in the year of selection
- Should there not be a full draw competing at the Ontario Masters Closed Championship (i.e. less than 4 competitors entered in an age category) it may be necessary to hold a further competition to selection athletes to fill the position(s). Should this situation arise, the Vice President Technical, Competitions will appoint an independent panel to adjudicate the issue
- If any of these winners are unable to accept the invitation, then the 2nd place finisher in that winner's division would be invited to be a member of the team. If neither the winner or runner up in a division is able to accept the invitation, then the Committee would complete the team, by selecting from entrants in the Masters Closed Championship, taking into account, but not being bound by, the rankings at the end of the Masters Closed Championship.
Women’s Team Eligibility Criteria – no change
- Be an individual member in good standing of Squash Ontario at the date of selection
- Be either a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the announced date of the Ontario Masters Closed Championship
- Be able to meet the age eligibility for the 2010 Canadian Masters Teams Championship – i.e. 15 January 2010
Selection Criteria – process for identification of players
- Squash Ontario will identify all women over the age of 40 in the database
- An electronic email will be sent to these women with information on the Canadian Masters Teams Championships – location, date, cost. They will also be told that selections will be based on the rankings as at 30 November – these new rankings will have included the results from the 2009 Ontario Masters Closed Championships – hopefully this might act as an incentive for participation
- Each will be asked to advise us if they are interested in playing for Team Ontario
- Based on this response, the list of interested women (and who meet the eligibility criteria) will be scrutinized by the chair of the Masters Committee, the Vice President Technical, Competitions and the Executive Director
- If more than one women in the same age category indicates they are interested in being part of the team and if the rankings are not clear, a play off will be arranged
Select the team based on the overall rankings
- Selections will be made and players advised no later than 15 December
