A record-breaking 15 teams and just under 100 participants competed in two divisions at this year's Portage M&A Advisory Ontario Regional Masters Team Championships, our largest to date! No stranger to hosting some of Ontario's top events, the Club at White Oaks and tournament chair Matt Easingwood ensured all players had an amazing time, on and off the court.
With thanks to the tournament's generous sponsors, Portage M&A advisory, Big Head Wines and Black Knight Racquets, players were treated to some amazing food, prizes and a Saturday night social complete with live entertainment. Our team captains put in lots of work leading up to the event recruiting players and filling their region's rosters. Without these volunteers, the tournament would not have been so successful, so thank you Captains!
In the A division, reigning champions Team Southwestern, led by Gary Delavigne came out on top winning all 4 of their matchups. Team Western finished in second place with a 3-1 record, followed by hometown heroes Team Niagara with a 2-2 record. All teams faced off against each other over the weekend with teams of 9. With multiple fixtures resulting in 5-4 and 6-3 finishes, it's clear the level of squash was highly competitive throughout the round robin play.
The B/C division had a whopping 10 teams face off in a draw format, with each team comprised of 5 players. Team Ottawa, led by Lorraine Tetreault and Rex Jung took home the gold medals after defeating Team Southwesten B1 3-2 in the finals. In the ¾ play off, Team Western B1 defeated Team Toronto Nu 4-1, claiming the bronze medals.
Congratulations to all podium finishers - in the end, squash won.
