Jesters University League – Sectional #1 Update

Fans of university squash can rejoice as the season is officially underway!

WEST SECTIONAL

The first home opener was hosted by the wonderful Gabe Platt and Kristin McFall of Laurier University. Games were hosted at Laurier and the Kitchener – Waterloo Racquet Club. The weekend saw 8 teams compete, with representation from Western UniversityUniversity of WaterlooWilfred Laurier University and University of Guelph. The women’s competition was dominated by Western University, lead by Catherine Giachino and Katherine Pitfield, with a near perfect weekend record of 20 – 1. Western University also remained victorious on the men’s side, posting a weekend record of 17 – 4. The Waterloo Warrior’s men, led by veteran Ravi Seth, came out in force for the competition in Waterloo, posting an impressive weekend score of 16 – 5, placing them 2nd in the western division.

 EAST SECTIONAL

The eastern division home opener was hosted at McGill University, by the dynamic pairing of Glen Chamberlain and Mairead Shaw. The Jesters University league invited Concordia University to compete as an exhibition team. The legendary Yvon Provencal coached the Concordia team, adding some Quebec juniors to the roster as well. In both the men’s and women’s draws, Queen’s had a dominant start to the season, leading the charge in both.

CENTRAL SECTIONAL

The University of Toronto hosted a jam-packed weekend of squash to kick off the central season. The Brock Badger’s Men’s Team, lead by veteran player Mo Hamour, edged out a tough 4-3 win over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to take an early lead in the season.  On the women’s side, last season’s champions, the U of T Varsity Blues won both match ups 5 -2 to start the season.
