SQUASH CANADA ANNOUNCES 2022 WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS SQUAD

After a long wait, the WSF World Junior Squash Championships are back, and Canada is ready! From August 11th to August 21st, the French Squash Federation will host the best players from around the world as they battle it out in Nancy, France. The event will feature a junior men’s and women’s individual event and the men’s junior team championships.  Read on for our Team event and Individual event player announcements.

Squash Canada is thrilled to announce the four talented, hard-working junior squash players that have been selected to the Canadian Junior Men’s Team:

  • Syan Singh (ON) • Jacob Lin (BC) • Mohamed Kamal (QC) • Joseph Toth (BC)

These four juniors have proven themselves over the course of the season through selection events and trials, and now come together in representing Canada on the world stage.

Each member of the team has posted very impressive results over the last year. Syan Singh of Ontario has proven himself very dominant, winning both the 2022 U19 Canadian Junior Closed Championships and the 2021 U19 Canadian Junior Open. In addition to the team event, multiple Ontario players will be representing Canada in the individual event - Alex Yuzpe, Iman Shaheen and Amal Izhar. Toronto Cricket Club Head Pro , Robin Clarke will be attending as a Coach.

Every year at the World Junior Championships there is an Individual event and a Team event. The Team event switches every year between Junior Men and Junior Women. The Individual event allows six players from each country, which means Squash Canada is delighted to announce the following athletes will be representing Canada at the 2022 WSF World Junior Individual Championships that occur directly before the Team event:

Junior Men:

Syan Singh (ON), Jacob Lin (BC), Mohamed Kamal (QC), Joseph Toth (BC), Alex Yuzpe (ON), Karim Michael (QC)

Junior Women:

These athletes are fortunate to be guided by an elite coaching staff of Jonathan Hill, coach at the Edgemont Athletic Club and long-time Canadian Junior National Coach, and Robin Clarke, coach at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club and an established former player and top Canadian singles and doubles player.

“I’m very excited to work with this talented group of players,” said Jonathan Hill, Squash Canada’s Junior National Coach. “We will be training and acclimatizing in Aix-en-Provence for a week leading up to the Worlds and then heading to Nancy, France to meet up with the players who will be competing in the World Individuals. The last Worlds were in Malaysia where we also had a full contingent of Junior Women and Men. Robin Clarke and myself are looking forward to working with the twelve athletes at the World Individuals and World Junior Men’s Team Championships”
