Ontario Athletes Crowned National Champions

Over 200 of Canada’s best junior players battled it out this past weekend at the 2022 Canadian Junior Closed Squash Championships in Victoria, British Columbia. Being the final event of the season for most of our athletes, it is a time to see if the countless hours of training and tournament play will result in a national title!

For the first time ever, the event featured both a Gold draw (which determined the National Champions) for the Top 16 athletes in the country in each division and a companion Silver draw for those ranked outside the top 16 in their age groups.

Similar to the 2021 Canadian Championships at Yorkdale Mall, select matches throughout the event were played on the Power Glass Court with stadium seating, including all finals. An amazing opportunity for our young Ontario athletes, who do not have regular access to such a luxury.

Squash Ontario is proud to announce our newest national champions; Kent Rawlins (Boys under 13), Ewan Harris (Boys under 17) and Syan Singh (Boys under 19). Many of our athletes finished on the podium including Arham Izhar (2nd BU15), Olivia Bolger (2nd GU13), Aneesa Tejani (2nd GU15), Iman Shaheen (2nd GU19), Caitlin Ng (3rd GU15) and Niki Shemirani (3rd GU19).

In addition, the following Ontario athletes finished on the podium of the Silver companion events; Henry Pankratz (1st BU15), Alex Felesky (2nd BU17), Ainsley Rawlins (2nd GU17) and Connor Rawlins (3rd BU11).

After a very difficult 2.5 years, in and out of lockdowns and club closures, our high-performance athletes stayed committed to their sport and trained exceptionally hard this season. Squash Ontario looks forward to carrying this momentum into the 2022-2023 season, with hopes of returning to our full schedule of programming and events, without any disruptions.
