Blyth Academy Online Launches Special Rates for Squash Ontario Members

Blyth Academy Online, one of the leaders in Ontario Secondary School Diploma education of student athletes, is proud to announce the launch of special academic year promotions.

Squash Ontario members can undertake the following ministry accredited online interdisciplinary courses at the discounted price of $350 for the 22-23 academic year. This specialized BAO approach aims to truly meet the needs of Canadian student athletes interested in deepening the understanding of their athletic daily life. They are fully accredited and count toward the OSSD, but please note that students can only earn one IDC credit in grade 11 and one in grade 12.

ATHLETICS - GRADE 11

Athletics will provide students with an understanding of how to make connections among diverse subjects and disciplines. Students will leave the course with a deep understanding of research and inquiry as it applies to athletics in the past, present, and future. It is meant to be highly applicable to the student’s current life as an athlete, and as such, contains assignments and projects that encourage them to apply the information in a personal and relevant context. Students will study athletics in terms of physiology, history, training strategies, and careers.

SPORTS ANALYTICS AND MANAGEMENT - GRADE 12

In this course, students will learn the basics of data/analytics and how they are used in a professional hockey context. Through a collaboration with ICEBERG Sports, students will gain hands-on experience with industry tools in sports analytics used in professional leagues around the world, including the NHL. Students will also learn about physical activity in sport, athlete development, scouting, and sports management. Sports Analytics and Management will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyze the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analyzing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on sports analytics and management issues. Students will also examine their own learning styles and lifestyles, relate their inquiries, and research to global situations, and investigate career opportunities in sports at various levels. While the data and analytics platform provided in this course relate specifically to hockey, this course provides learning opportunities that apply to a wide variety of sports.

THE ELITE ATHLETE - GRADE 12

The Elite Athlete is designed for students who will pursue their athletic goals after secondary school, be it inter-collegiate sports, provincial, national, or international competition. Students will explore topics such as Managing Social Media, Sports Journalism & Strategic Athletic Marketing, Ethics for Elite Athletes, Leadership, Building and Maintaining Financial Security, and Time Management. In The Elite Athlete, students will uncover and apply areas of interest to elite athletes in all these areas.
