As summer is now fully upon us and with preparations for the 2019-20 season are underway, the Squash Ontario Board and staff are taking a moment to reflect on the record breaking 2018-19 season. Huge gains were made in growing our sport with participation levels way up for the 5th year in a row, from grassroots to juniors to university to masters and doubles squash across the province. 

Canada, hosting the event for the first time, struck gold on the final day of the Pan American Junior Squash Championships with success in the Women’s Team event in Toronto.

Ottawa, ON, May 29, 2019 - The Canadian Sport Helpline is a new initiative to ensure that all Canadians participating in sport can do so in a safe and welcoming environment, regardless of the role they play. Safe sport is everyone’s responsibility, and the national toll-free helpline offers assistance to victims and witnesses of harassment, abuse, discrimination, and bullying.

We are happy to report that thanks to sponsors, donors, and participants, $22,000 was raised at the 2019 Charity Golf Classic on June 14th at the Richmond Hill Golf Club.

The 2019 Pan American Junior Squash Championships are now underway at the Mayfair Lakeshore Racquet Club in Toronto, Ontario until Saturday June 22, 2019. This is the first time in history that Canada has the honour of hosting the prestigious event.

For the first time in history, Canada is hosting the prestigious Pan American Junior Squash Championships. Canada’s top juniors will battle it out on home soil against a field of 11 other Pan American countries from June 16-22, 2019 at the Mayfair Lakeshore Racquet Club in Toronto, Ontario.

One of the most successful junior cohorts in recent Squash Ontario history added another feather to their caps this past weekend as the Canadian Women’s Junior National Team will be made up off entirely Ontario athletes. Congratulations to Charlotte Orcutt and Brianna Jefferson who were selected to the team earlier in the month based on two seasons worth of results and Erica McGillicuddy and Molly Chadwick who clinched their spots at trials this past weekend at the Toronto Cricket Club. 

Squash Ontario is now accepting applications for a Summer Programs Assistant to help both in the office and at various squash camps this summer! If you are a student looking for summer work, apply to this position!

2019 Jim Mason Cup High School tournament took place at Executive Squash and Fitness this weekend. Over 100 players from 12 different schools across Ontario participated! Congratulations to all players and teachers who brought intensity, passion and top notch style to the courts!

The 2018-19 Junior Silver series wrapped up this past weekend with the Mortgage Company of Canada Junior Silver Championships at Mayfair Lakeshore. The Silver events are an important step in the Squash Ontario Athlete Development Pathway, where athletes will graduate into the Gold and Provincial level events next season and gain exposure to international quality competition.
