Board Recruitment 2026: Building the Next Chapter for Squash Ontario
Term: Two years (expected to be renewed up to the maximum of three terms)
Start Date: September 11, 2026, following our Annual General Meeting
Squash Ontario is looking for three dynamic, well-connected leaders to join its Board of Directors at an exciting moment of growth and transformation. With current Directors Leah Desbarres, Natasha Seth, and Dan Van Moorsel concluding their impactful tenures in 2026, this is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of squash in Ontario. Incoming Board members will play a pivotal role in guiding the development of a new strategic plan for 2026/2027—bringing fresh ideas, leadership, and vision to the next chapter of the sport.
Skills/Attributes: The composition of our Board is thoughtfully designed to reflect the breadth and diversity of the squash community, with consideration given to gender balance, regional perspectives, athlete representation, and a wide range of professional expertise. At this time, we are seeking individuals who can contribute to and further strengthen this balanced and inclusive approach in the following areas:
Gender diversity, including at least two women
Regional representation from Eastern Ontario, Niagara, Southwestern Ontario, or Northern Ontario
Legal expertise
Squash programming expertise, including one or more of the following areas: refereeing, club professional or club ownership, junior development, university and/or school squash, and court advocacy or facility development
High Performance player experience
Time Commitment:
Attend quarterly Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and any designated Committee or ad-hoc meetings. Approximately 12-15 hours in total.
Term is two years, with the expectation of serving up to three consecutive terms.
Squash Ontario is a not-for-profit organization that acts as the provincial governing body for our sport in Ontario. The organization is governed by seven to nine volunteer Board of Directors who provide vision and leadership for the overall direction of Squash Ontario as well as craft and monitor the policies and procedures that allow it to function. The directors are elected by the members of Squash Ontario at the annual general meeting for a two-year term of which a maximum of three consecutive terms can be held. The president of the organization and vice president of finance are elected by the board themselves annually.
Eligibility
Individuals are eligible for the Board of Directors if they are:
- An individual member or honorary member in good standing with Squash Ontario,
- A member in good standing of a member club/facility,
- Must be 19 years of age or older, who has the power under law to contract,
- Must be a resident of Ontario, and
- Must clearly support the vision, mission and values of Squash Ontario.
The successful candidate will have no conflict of interest (whether actual or perceived) with Squash Ontario or any of its affiliations which would prevent them from fulfilling their fiduciary duty to Squash Ontario.
