The brilliant sunrise in Edmonton last Sunday morning was a fitting backdrop to the golden performance from Ontario's masters team. The 7 member squad of 4 men and 3 women lived up to its number one seeding, roaring through the preliminary rounds of the Canadian Team Championships in convincing fashion before beating Alberta 4-3 in a thrilling gold medal finale.

Originally a Canadian event, the Ontario Junior Doubles Championships has changed over as a new provincial championship event in the hands of Jessica DiMauro at the Granite Club. This year the event took in 84 juniors, tying with the largest Canadian Junior Doubles event ever! Special thanks to the Ontario Doubles Squash League, Harrow, and the Cambridge Club for supporting the event and helping grow the doubles game!

Squash Ontario, in partnership with Black Knight, is proud to announce the second installment of the 2016-17 season's player of the month award. With an incredible amount of activity to close out 2016, there were many extraordinary performances to choose from. Please join us in congratulating the November/December 2016 BK Players of the Month's James Flynn, Erica McGillicuddy, Lisa Bogdan, and Nick Sachvie.

The event we all look forward to is back with the 8th Annual Cambridge Cup returning to the Toronto in just a few weeks, featuring the best squash players on the planet. Over the last decade, the Cambridge Cup has established itself as THE premier event on the Canadian squash calendar. 

The Canadian Men's and Women's Team Championships took place this past weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Gatineau, Quebec respectively. Each province sent three of their top players to the three day events and Team Ontario consisted of Albert Shoihbet, Ahad Raza, and Mohonad Hekel for the men and Micaala Seth, Marnie Baizley, and Marlow Benson for the women. 

The University of Western Ontario squash players are training hard because their biggest match of the year takes place this Saturday!  Saturday January 7th the Mustangs play US Naval Academy in London Ontario.  The event will be hosted at London Squash and Racquet Club located at 76 Albert St, London Ontario. 

Given the holiday season, the Ontario Squash Hall of Fame Board of Directors is extending the deadline for nominations to 15 January 2017. The Board encourages all members of the Ontario squash community to submit nominations for the Hall of Fame.

As the holidays and close of 2016 draw near, let's take a moment to recount the number of amazing matches and tournaments this year has seen. Congratulations and thank you to all those who worked hard to earn a provincial title, those who play in almost every tournament, those who stepped into tournaments for the first time, and those who encouraged their friends and family to pick up a racquet and join them in squash. 

15 years and counting! The Fast Eddie Junior Bronze run by Jim Paton at the Granite Club isn't slowing down anytime soon.  Thank you Jim for introducing these new players to tournament play in memory of Edward O'Brien.

The first weekend of December proved to be a heavy squash weekend with the Badminton & Racquet club quarterbacking multiple Squash Ontario events! Alongside the biggest Ontario Doubles event in recent years, the Jester's Harrow Junior Silver #4 event took place at the Badminton & Racquet Club as well as the Toronto Lawn & Tennis Club.
